It’s now been three and a half years since the Senate passed a budget. I don’t feel a need to comment on the absurdity of that fact. The absurdity is self evident.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) is making a play for chairmanship of the Senate budget committee. She doesn’t even have the chairmanship yet and she’s already saying that she can’t commit to actually passing a budget. Ace of Spades has some good comments on that here.
My question for Sen. Murray is simple. If the Senate can not or will not pass a budget, why does the Senate continue to have a Budget Committee?
Some scrappy Senator, maybe Rand Paul or Tom Coburn, should introduce a resolution abolishing the Budget Committee. It obviously wouldn’t go anywhere but it would be a great way to make the point.
